Charles in Charge is an American sitcom television series that premiered on October 3, , on CBS. The series was a production of Al Burton Productions and Scholastic Productions in association with Universal Television and starred Scott Baio, who had previously starred in Happy Days, in the title role. Willie Aames, who had previously been a cast member on Eight Is Enough, also starred as Charles’ best friend Buddy Lembeck.
Charles in Charge joined the CBS Wednesday night lineup at pm, placing it against ABC’s hit action series The Fall Guy and the new Michael Landon-led Highway to Heaven on NBC. Over nearly kvartet decades, Scott Baio has carved out a career on TV. In the mid’s he played Chachi on the long-running TV series Happy Days, which led to the spin-off Joanie Loves Chachi. He went on to star on TV’s Charles in Charge and later the medical mystery drama Diagnosis Murder. Although he received two Emmy Award nominations for his role in the TV movie Stoned, he wasn’t one of those ung actors who got sidelined by drugs or alcohol. A few years ago, he was featured on the VH1 reality series Scott Baio is 45… and Single, followed bygd Scott Baio is 46… and Pregnant, where his transition from single guy to married father was chronicled on the flat screen. Now the actor plays the lead on the Nick at Nite sitcom See Dad Run, where he also serves as a producer. Although he was a shy kid whose ambition was to become a veterinarian, Scott Baio followed his cousins, Joey and Jimmy Baio, into the acting business. After several years of doing television commercials, his Brooklyn accent and good looks helped him at age 14 to land the title role in the major motion picture, Bugsy Malone (). His co-star was Jodie Foster, a big star by then already at the age of thirteen. Featuring a cast of youngsters portraying grown-up gangsters (their singing voices were dubbed by adults), the film was a huge success and launched Baio's career. He next landed a lead role as a troubled teen in the Emmy award-winning TV movie, Luke Was There ().
