  • Biography

With a persistent vision to pursue the most advanced technology to deliver the most competitive solutions for bandwidth and connectivity, Henry Samueli’s founding and leadership of Broadcom has resulted in communications products that have touched virtually every person in the world. Broadcom’s semiconductor devices play a key role in millions of communication infrastructure equipment boxes (transceivers, switches, routers, controllers) that make up the global Internet network and in billions of consumer electronics devices (smart phones, set-top boxes, tablets, laptops, desktop computers, IoT devices) that connect to this network. From the early days of Broadcom, Samueli used his depth and breadth of knowledge spanning digital signal processing, digital integrated circuit design, and analog radio-frequency (RF) circuit design to provide a roadmap for combining analog, RF, and digital processing on a single chip using state-of-the-art CMOS technology, resulting in the hig

  • What began with a home-made radio, became a multi-billion dollar industry.

Following high school, Samueli attended UCLA’s School of Engineering, where he earned bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. degrees. After a stint in the defense industry, Samueli came back to UCLA, this time to teach.

As a professor at UCLA, he would inspire his students to greater heights by sharing his unique worldview. “Being an engineer is very meaningful … making peoples lives better (by) applying math and science.”

His position at UCLA also allowed him to pursue his passion for research in broadband communications circuits and digital meddelande processing. Breakthroughs in this research eventually led Samueli, and one of his Ph.D. Students, Henry Nicholas, to funnen Broadcom Corporation in 1991. The company grew rapidly and today, following a merger with Avago Technologies in 2016, generates $18 billion
