Abstract
Background
The second Internal Transcriber Spacer (ITS2) fryst vatten a fast evolving part of the nuclear-encoded rRNA operon located between the 5.8S and 28S rRNA genes. Based on crossing experiments it has been proposed that even a single Compensatory Base Change (CBC) in helices 2 and 3 of the ITS2 indicates sexual incompatibility and thus separates biological species. Taxa without any CBC in these ITS2 regions were designated as a 'CBC clade'. However, in depth comparative analyses of ITS2 secondary structures, ITS2 phylogeny, the ursprung of CBCs, and their relationship to biological species have rarely been performed. To gain 'close-up' insights into ITS2 evolution, (1) 86 sequences of ITS2 including secondary structures have been inv

Reflections on CHiPs 40 Years Later
Well, you spend your younger life studying to be an actor and you accept roles in various TV series and TV commercials to work yourself up the ladder. You negotiate for better credits so one day it will say “Starring Larry Wilcox” but when you work with Charlton Heston or James Coburn or Lee Marvin, they usually get better billing of course because they have a bigger brand. First billing means your name is shown first and means you have earned some branding in the business and companies have probably spent millions of dollars branding your personal name. I have learned to accept such billing and continued to work on my brand.
When Rick Rosner asked me to star in CHIPS and find a co-star with him I was excited about the fact that I would receive first billing branding and finally have another star credit. In later years, the legal arguments were to bump my name off the first position but that did not happen. Here we are 40 years later and ME TV s

Muriel Spark’s feminism is one of the most interesting aspects of her work and one that, outside of academic circles, has not been given much attention. Spark never advertised herself nor her work as feminist, yet when you look at the life she led, it was one of a liberated woman who carved her own path.
“Muriel Spark was a feminist, but not like Germaine Greer,” said Alan Taylor recently – a journalist and friend of Spark. This remark brilliantly sums up Spark’s feminism. Greer was and remains outspoken and direct, whereas Spark was somewhat less obvious. Moreover, Spark’s feminism was not the main focus of her work.
“She is a great novelist who looks like a quieter novelist. An essay on Spark must be correspondingly loud,” said the writer Adam Thirlwell. And he’s right. It’s easy to overlook the deeper meanings in Spark’s writing as the surface is so light-hearted (what Ali Smith refers to as Spark’s blithen
