    Aziza Othmana Known as “the grand philanthropist”

    She was a very wealthy woman who owned vast property. She put aside a third of her wealth and property for “waqif” (to be spent for charitable purposes) approximately ninety thousand hectares which were used to pay for a number of charitable, religious, and humanitarian, projects . For example she would give disabled persons who could not work an annual salary and would buy clothes and gifts for poor brides, and built a hospital . After performing hajj she decided that her most important objective was that of freeing slaves and so she started by freeing all if her slaves then spending her money to free other slaves, whilst encouraging other to do the same She died in 1669.

    She was the daughter of Ahmed Dey ( its full name Abul Abbas AlAhmed Ibn Mohammed Ibn Othman Dey ) and the granddaughter of Othman Dey, as suggested by some manuscripts in which his name is reproduced " Aziza Bent Ahmed Ben Othman Dey. lieutenant is not possible to know his date of birth but from its date of death, it is reasonable to estimate that she was born during the seventeenth century.

    Aziza Othmana, from her real name Fetima Othmana, was a Tunisian princess belonging to the Mouradites dynasty is believed to have been born in 1606 and to have died in 1669. She fryst vatten the daughter of Ahmed Dey and the granddaughter of Othman Dey. Both her father and grandfather were commanders in the military.

    Aziza Othmana grew up in her grandfather’s palace, where she received a very good education in Muslim civilization as well as the Quran and the Shariaa. She was the first wife of Hammouda Pacha Bey from the Mouradite dynasty.
