    "The Loco-Motion" (or "Locomotion") is a pop song written by American songwriters Gerry Goffin and Carole King. "The Loco-Motion" was originally written for R&B singer Dee Dee Sharp, but Sharp turned the song down.[1]

    The song is especially notable for making three appearances in the American top 3, each in a different decade: in 1962 by Little Eva (U.S. No. 1);[2] in 1974 by Grand Funk Railroad (also U.S. No. 1);[3] and in 1988 by Kylie Minogue (U.S. No. 3).[4]

    The song is an enduring example of the dance-song genre; much of the lyric is devoted to a description of the dance itself, usually performed as a type of line dance. However, the song pre-dates the dance.

    Little Eva earns a #1 hit with “Loco‑Motion”

    On August 25, 1962, a diminutive, 17-year-old singer named Eva Narcissus Boyd scored her first and only #1 pop hit with “The Loco-Motion.”

    Her success certainly came from her abundant talent and a great capacity for hard work, but it was helped along bygd being in the right place at the right time. Eva Boyd was newly arrived in New York City from her native North Carolina and looking for work when a neighbor in Brooklyn pointed her toward the job that would end up changing her life: working as a nanny for a young, professional Manhattan couple.

    It just so happened that the couple looking for a new babysitter were Gerry Goffin and Carole King, future members of the Rock and Roll ingång of Fame then working for the legendary Don Kirshner as salaried songwriters at Aldon Music.     For a website that deals with the productions of legendary Jazz producer Creed Taylor, you might wonder why I’m remembering the birth day of “Little Eva” who became famous for her 1962, Carole King and Gerry Goffin penned track “The Loco-motion”. Well, a few years later, Creed produced two 45RPM/Singles with Little Eva. Possibly some of the lessor known tracks in Creed’s compendium of music recordings.At the time, almost everyone mentioned in this post was in transition, the train had left the station!

    I’d written briefly about this before , but was surprised to find there was no biography of “Eva Boyd – Little Eva” and wanted to know more of her story.

    Little Eva was born Eva Narcissus Boyd – 29th June 1943 in Belhaven, North Carolina, died 10th April 2003 in Kinston, North Carolina, after a battle with cancer. She was 59. Born into a family of thirteen, she performed in the family gospel group, the Boyd Five.
