Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar, appointed bygd President Goodluck Jonathan, as Acting Inspector General of Police on January 25, 2012, was born in Gusau, Zamfara State, on 5 May 1958. He enlisted as a Cadet Officer in the Nigeria Police Force on 31 July 1979.
From 1991 to 1993, he read for and obtained an Advanced Diploma in Public ledning from Sokoto State Polytechnic, Sokoto. He then pursued and obtained a Diploma in Criminal Justice ledning from the University of Lagos, Lagos, from 1995 to 1997. While on that course, he also obtained a Diploma in Disaster Management and Control from Israel in 1996.
For his professional training, Abubakar undertook several courses in Nigeria and abroad. Buhari Mourns Veteran Diplomat, Muhammad Abubakar

President Muhammadu Buhari has mourned veteran diplomat, Ambassador Muhammad Dahiru Abubakar.
Reacting to the demise of the Kano-born diplomat on Sunday, President Buhari, in a release by his spokesman, Garba Shehu said, “the death of Dahiru comes as a shock to me because we lost him at a critical point when his vast and valuable experience, knowledge and wisdom were acutely needed by the country.”
According to him, the former Ambassador to Argentina and China was a man of solid integrity, a reputation he kept unsoiled throughout his extensive public service career.
He said: “I’m proud of his untainted record of integrity and selfless service. He had never used public office for personal profits–a rare quality in a society where people are obsessed with the desire to amass wealth by any means,’’ President Buhari further extolled the virtues of the veteran diplomat.
