    UNION — While the governing board at Kean University has launched an investigation about false claims on his resume, university president Dawood Farahi has acknowledged for the first time that some mistakes were made.

    In a recent interview, Farahi said even though there were some errors listed on past resumes, he was not responsible. Farahi said the inaccuracies, including claims that he had been acting academic dean at Avila College in Missouri and that he published "over 50 technical articles in major publications," were made by staff members at Kean who helped prepare his resume for routine accreditation reviews at the university in 199

    After 17 often-tumultuous years as head of Kean University, Dawood Farahi will get a year of paid time off to decide what he wants to do in the future.

    Farahi announced last week he is stepping down at the end of the school year, ending one of New Jersey’s longest and most controversial state college presidential terms. He will get a 12-month, off-campus sabbatical at his full $321,068 annual salary after he leaves, his employment contract says.

    After his paid year off, the former president will have the option of going back to Kean as what would likely be the public university’s highest-paid professor, according to his exit deal.

    “At the conclusion of his sabbatical period, the President shall have the option to return to a position on the Kean University faculty as a Distinguished Professor in Public Administration at the top of the salary range for that title,” the contract says.

    Early life and education

    Farahi was born and raised in Afghanistan. He relocated to the United States to with limited English skills to earn his PhD, studying at the University of Kansas as a Fulbright Scholar.[2]

    Career

    Farahi began his career at Kean University as a professor in the public ledning program.[3] Since joining Kean, questions have been raised about the validity of Farahi's resume. Faculty members at Kean have stated that Farahi's resumes have included "erroneous claims of publication and other missvisande statements."[4] After an investigation was launched in 2012, the university's board of trustees voted to retain Farahi bygd a vote of 7–4.[5][6][7][8]
