My parents used to watch Surabhi and loved it. What they liked most was the ever-smiling anchor Renuka Shahane, who together with Siddharth Kak regaled the viewers for 10 years. The actress made her mark in films with Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994) playing Madhuri Dixit’s elder sister. Though strangely, she never capitalised on that success. She married Ashutosh Rana in 2001 and afterwards got busy with her married life. Her sons Shauryaman and Satyendraand kept her busy. She did come on and off in TV serials but didn’t pursue acting actively. Renuka was seeking different horizons and made her debut in direction with Marathi spelfilm Rita (2009). Now a decade later, she has made her directorial debut in Hindi cinema with Tribhanga. Renuka Shahane is a television and film actress. Renuka first gained popularity as the presenter of Surabhi (1993–2001) Doordarshan TV show. Her notable TV serials were Imtihaan and Circus where she portrayed the love interest of then relatively unknown Shah Rukh Khan's character. Shahane started her career with the Marathi film Hach Sunbaicha Bhau and has done many Marathi Films. She became popular after her role as Madhuri Dixit's elder sister in the 1994 blockbuster Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!. Renuka Shahane (born 7 October 1966)[1] is an Indian actress who is widely known for her work in the Hindi and Marathi films and several television productions. She is best known as the co-presenter of the Doordarshan TV show Surabhi (1993–2001).[2] She has received several awards and nominations including a Filmfare Award Marathi.
Early life
[edit]Renuka Shahane was born into a Marathi family in Bombay (present Mumbai).[3][4] Her father, Lt. Cdr. Vijay Kumar Shahane, was an officer in the Indian Navy.[4] Her mother, Shanta Gokhale, is a theatre personality and film critic who works mainly on Marathi theatre. When Renuka was very young, her mother divorced her father and married Arun Khopkar, a film-maker.[5] The second marriage also ended in divorce, after which Shanta Gokhale began a long-term friendship with Jerry Pinto, also a film
