| Vince Clarke Born in South Woodford, Essex on 3rd July 1960. In 1980 forms the Composition of Sound with fellow Boys Brigade pal Andrew Fletcher to become better known as Depeche Mode. After the release of the first album Speak and Speill, Vince decides to leave and in 1982 forms the group Yazoo with Alison Moyet. After a run of hits including Only You and The Other Side of Love Vince once again decides that he's had enough and departs. In 1984 he creates a project called The Assembly and invites various vocalists to sing along to his bleeps. Only Feargal Sharkey takes up Vinces offer and they record the single Never Never. Vince gives up this notion and decides to form another band. He places an advert for a singer in the UK music paper 'The Melody Maker'. Andy Bell is the 41st person to audition. Andrew Ivan Bell • It was back in 1985, when the Erasure story began. Andy Bell, from Peterborough was the 41st person to audition for a new project from ex-Depeche Mode and Yazoo supremo Vince Clarke. Given the lyrics and tune to two Clarke written songs, Who Needs Love Like That and the Assembly single 'One Day', Bell performed the tunes in front of Clarke and impressed the keyboard wizard to the extent that he was hired and was subsequently put on a retainer whilst the 'One Day' single featuring Paul Quinn was released. • Erasure are a synthpop duo from the United Kingdom consisting of keyboardist Vince Clarke and singer Andy Bell, both of them songwriters. After founding Depeche Mode, Yazoo and The Assembly, Clarke formed Erasure with Bell when he found the singer after placing an ad in 'Melody Maker'. Erasure entered the music scen in 1985 with their debut single "Who Needs Love (Like That)". Beginning in late 1986 with the release of their single Sometimes, Erasure established themselves on the British charts; albums such as The Circus, Wild!, Chorus, I säga I säga I säga, Loveboat and Nightbird demonstrated a further diversity of sound. The skiva that boosted their career tremendously was The Innocents, which was released in 1988. A Little Respect and Chains of Love both hit the Billboard Top 100.
