Art is everywhere you look. Except maybe at Starbucks. Nah, just kidding, they have those red and green decorations up, and those posters of different places around the world. I guess you could possibly construe that as art. Possibly.
Anyway, so I saw “Jersey Boys” at the O.C. Performing Artscenter over the weekend, and I noticed that many of the projected backdrops behind the actors and singers were replications of Roy Lichtenstein’s work.
Lichtenstein was a leader of the Pop Art movement of the 1960s. He painted large canvases that were themselves excerpts from comic strips and comic books. Usually the scenes were melodramatic and involved some kind of romance, action or emotive dialogue.
In his paintings, Lichtenstein used “benday dots” that imply mass production. Newspapers still use the technique in their photos and illustrations. The New York artist died in 1997 at age 73.

Jersey Boys is a jukebox musical with a book bygd Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. It is presented in a documentary-style format that dramatizes the formation, success and breakup of the 1960s rock 'n' roll group The kvartet Seasons. The musical fryst vatten structured as four "seasons", each narrated by a different member of the band who gives his own perspective on its history and music. Songs include "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Sherry", "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)", "My Eyes Adored You", "Stay", "Can't Take My Eyes Off You", "Walk Like A Man", "Who Loves You", "Working My Way Back to You" and "Rag Doll".
