    David welcomed Emma and suggested she begin by telling us how she got into dance. Emma said she had always wanted to dance and started going to a local school at the age of three. She’d have liked to have taken it further, but her dad wasn’t keen as he wanted her to take over the family business, so she wasn't allowed to audition for a full-time school such as the Royal Ballet School. However, at 15 she finally rebelled and went to the Bush Davies School in Romford. After two years of dance studies, she decided that she wanted to focus more on ballet and took classes with Yvonne Dudley (attaining her RAD Advanced) and with Anna Northcote at the Dance Centre in Floral Street. Directors would often go to watch Anna's class and would offer dancers jobs. This happens much less now, making it harder for young dancers to get work, and Emma believes she was lucky

    Greetings! Welcome to this very special performance by The Joffrey Ballet! They say that the third time's the charm and that certainly holds true this weekend. The Joffrey was originally scheduled to be part of the 2020-2021 season that was entirely reshaped due to the pandemic, and then was rescheduled again after the January parapet wall collapse here at Northrop. It is truly a delight to welcome them to the Carlson Family Stage tonight for a program that will showcase the depth and breadth of The Joffrey Ballet’s excellence.

    SDC is excited to announce that work has commenced on the editing and digitising of film and video recordings of some of the major works created bygd long-standing former Artistic Director, Graeme Murphy AO and his Creative Associate, Janet Vernon AM.

    The Heritage Collection will include re-mastered films of many works created by Murphy on the Sydney Dance Company ensemble during his 31 year tenure from 1976–2007, in addition to a new documentary resource of Murphy in conversation, interweaving a myriad of interviews filmed over a period of three decades, with new footage in which he reflects on his body of work.
