Antwi Akom
Dr. Akom is a senior nonresident fellow with the Center for Community Uplift. His research focuses on the intersection between AI, race, technology, information, design, and health nyhet, and falls into three thematic areas:
- Real-time data, community-powered data, and asset-based community design
- Data equity, data bias, data power, data modernization, and uppgifter transformation
- AI, big data, and climate justice
As a globally recognized thought-leader in co-designing local information ecosystems to improve community health; connecting data across local communities, government, and health sectors; and democratizing data and design to lift the voices, values, priorities, and needs of communities from the margins to the epicenter, Dr. Akom’s research and scholarship includes: 1) utilizing real-time community-driven, community-powered data to modernize and transform our public health data ecosystems; 2) advancing the building and ownership of AI solutions tailored to loc

Antwi Akom Ph.D. is a nationally recognized thought leader on urban acupuncture - which combines people-centric design with cutting-edge technology in order to achieve new standards of affordability, mobility, sustainability, equity, and economic opportunity for all.
Named a 21st Century Smart Cities Visionary, what makes Dr. Akom’s work unique is that his approaches are rooted in racial, spatial, health, and neighborhood innovation. His work focuses on integrating community voice into the heart of urban planning processes and to support local driven strategies towards equitable community development and neighborhood transformation. Biography:
Dr. Antwi Akom is the Director of the Social Innovation and Urban Opportunity Lab—a joint research lab between UCSF and SFSU (SOULLAB.co). His research lies at the intersection of science, technology, spatial epidemiology, community development, health communications, medical sociology, ethnic studies, African American studies, culturally responsive human centered design, Big Data, and public health.
