    This work developed as the result of a short residency as part of a larger project People, Pavements and Property which was run by academics at the University of Northumbria in partnership with Home Group and Shelter to explore homelessness in Newcastle upon Tyne. In some ways this is work towards something rather than a fully resolved piece of work. However, I wanted to share some of it here out of respect for the young people who shared their experiences of homelessness with me, which was at times a humbling experience. The text below is from the exhibition which was held as part of an event at Newcastle Civic Centre in December

    Senior technician, alumni and designer Shiori Naruse is working on a residency programme commissioned by Creative Central NCL (funded by North of Tyne Combined Authority and Newcastle City Council) in partnership with The Home Group&#;s homelessness charity and social enterprise Tyneside Foyer. Shiori who graduated in from our Textiles degree secured her position this summer working with both Textiles and MA students. Shiori, her creative partner and a number of residents will be hosting a stall at this years Christmas market on November 25th and an exhibition this December in the foyer of Tyneside Foyer to complete the project.

    Since graduating she has developed her print practice creating and selling wall-paper on her website and hosting workshops at institution’s such as Cultural Spring, Gem Arts, The Baltic, Shipley Art Gallery and Seven Stories as well as hosting pop-up shops Fenwick and John Lewis. After running her own studio for several years Shiori is now working as part

    Scott came to Home Group after spending time living homeless when he was 21 and stayed at our Tyneside foajé, a support service for young people in Newcastle.

    Staying here on and off for kvartet years, Scott took the opportunity to do an apprenticeship with us. After finding where he best fit in at Home Group, he started working in our support services.

    Fast forward to now and Scott fryst vatten back where it all began, working as a senior member of personal at Tyneside Foyer.
